Tex's Challenge Adventure Race ™ (Completed for 2008)
Dear Kat and Scott,
We just received your check for the donation to the Old Community Center. Wow, that is more than generous and much appreciated by all of the family. The Community Center has been a pet project of Tex's from the early 60's and has housed projects ranging from a youth center to the annual Snake Shake and Armadillo Roundup (sounds like Tex, doesn't it!). The two buildings now house Burnet's Visitor's Center and be beginnings of a local museum. Your donation will be applied to the on-going renovation of the museum part of the building.
Thanks you for all of your hard work. The event was a great success and we would be pleased to host the 2009 Tex's Challenge.
Attawaytogo,
The Longhorn Family

Adventure Races |
![]() Adventure Races put teams of 2-4 people through multi-sport challenges, such as: mountain biking, trail running, kayaking or canoeing, & orienteering. In our sprint adventure races (2-3 hours), we add the twist of a mystery event. Mystery events are challenges you can’t train for, but require some kind of teamwork to get through: possibly thinking, or possibly physical, or some combination of both. Examples….one race we used a rodeo arena and one person on bike but he couldn’t pedal. The other person on foot had to push the cyclist around the barrels (barrel racing), through the sand, to the finish….another race, one person on bike, one person running for a chosen section of trail – this is called a hike & bike….another race, zip tie one teammate’s wrist to the other teammate’s ankle and complete a small course together (trick was to put the teammate that had the zip tie on his ankle on the other person’s back piggyback style and run….another race, one teammate blindfolded while other teammate instructs him how to put puzzle together. Adventure races are not relay races. The teams must travel (within 15 feet of each other) and compete together in all events, emphasizing teamwork. Each race is an adventure, and you will never stop learning something you can apply in your next race! |
