- All races begin at 9am this year
Entry Fee is $75 per person ($150 per team). If you enter all 5 races at once by 5/17/08, you will receive a discount of $50 for a total entry fee of $325 per person for 5 races total.
2 Person Teams Only: Coed, Male, Female, Coed Masters, Male Masters (new this year) (All Masters team members must be 40+ years old by 12/31/08) & also new this year, the Clydesdale Division (both team members combined weight must be > than 400 lbs and you may use your own life jackets, but you must each paddle separate in two of our boats).
Events: All events (other than Houston) will include: 2-3 mile trail run, 7-14 mile mountain bike, 20 - 35 minute canoe & mystery events. The Houston Urban Race will not include paddling, but instead will be 4-6 miles running, 15-20 miles mountain bike and mystery events. You must use mountain bikes for all races - no hybrids allowed. The races are designed to take 2 hours on average. We provide the boats (Sevylor K-79 Model Inflatable Canoes), the paddles and the life jackets. You MUST use our boats, paddles and life jackets. However, the Clydesdale Division mut ride 1 person per boat, so each team will take out two boats (our boat weight limit is 400lbs). Please see our General Information Link for other gear you are required to bring. It is advantagous to have a Sevylor High Back Seat for the paddling event. If you do not have one, we sell them on race day for $15 each. Call ahead to make sure we have enough. However, they are not required, and some racers choose to paddle on their knees or sitting on their bottoms or on a beach ball.
Series Champions: Each team receives points according to their finishing place in each individual race. Teams must compete in at least 3 races to qualify for the Texas State Championship Series Awards. Teams that compete in all 5 races may drop their worst time (ex: the teams total points are the 4 best finishes in the series). Teams that compete in 3 or 4 races will use the points from all races. Top 10 finisher shirts are awarded at the end of the series to the top 10 teams in each category, and top 5 teams are awarded plaques. The winning team of each category of the Texas State Championship Series will receive a prize package.
Texas Team/Club Championship: Teams may represent their team/club in the Texas Team/Club Championship. There is no fee for this, but all teams must register their team roster prior to the start of the sprint series first race on May 31, 2008. Team/Clubs will receive points for teams finishing positions in their quest to take home the Texas Team/Club Championship trophy.
Kid's races: All races of the series will have a Kid's Race. Kid's Races usually last 1-2 minutes, and include a run and possible mystery event. Parents are allowed to race with the younger kids. All kid's races are free with all participants receiving a finishing award and a race singlet.
Additional Information
Teams can race in in only 1 race or any combination of the races up to all 5 of the races in the series. The Top 10 teams in each division will be awarded at each individual race. Awards 10 deep, prizes 5 deep in all categories.
Teams may also compete in the Texas State Championship point series, where the top 5 teams in each division will be crowned at the conclusion of the series. Top 10 teams in each division will receive top 10 finisher t-shirts! Teams must compete in at least 3 races to become part of the Texas State Championship Series. Teams must choose a team name in order to compete in the Texas State Championship point series (see rules).
* Entry includes: race shirt or other race souvinir (last year we did backpacks instead of t-shirts at one race), use of canoe, paddle, life jacket, and land use fees.
Registration Info
Early entry discount 2 weeks in advance: $75 per person/$150 per team for each race site - ($85.00 per person after early entry date two weeks before race date) Enter all 5 races by 5/17/08 to receive a discount of $50 off your 5 entries for a total entry fee of $325!
You are also require to have a USARA license. A one-year license could be purchased in advance for $35 on their website, or you can buy an one day license for $8 on race day. Be sure to bring cash or check, as we do not accept credit cards on race day.

General Information
ALL Sprint races Race check in & starting time: Teams can check in at the race site between 7:00am – 8:30am. Mandatory meeting at 8:30am on race day where teams will receive instructions. Race Day Registration is available from 7:00-8:00 am for teams that do not pre-register. Start time 9 am. Expected winning time - 2 hours.
There will be a central transition area where teams can set up their gear. During the race the teams will pass through this area several times making it possible to reload on food, water, change clothes, etc. Teams will compete in a multi sport challenge consisting of a 2-3 mile trail run, a 7-10 mile mountain bike, a 20-35 minute canoe (canoe is a marked distance), and possible mystery events. Exact distances vary from location to location. Teammates must remain in visual contact of each other at all times (15 ft). There will not be any water stations along the course and teams are expected to provide all necessary food & water. The course is marked and teams will not need to land navigate during the race. All paddling is on lakes or calm rivers. Although they are not required, teams may bring their own inflatable boat seats or beach balls to sit on during the paddle.
Teams receive points according to their finishing place in each individual race. The top twenty teams in each division will receive points for their finishing places at each race. Teams must compete in at least 3 races to qualify for the Texas State Championships, but 4 races will be counted in the points total. Teams that compete in all 5 races may drop their worst place (ie: the teams total points are the 4 best finishes in the series). Teams that compete in 3 races will use the points from all 3 races. The average of each teams' best 4 finishes will determine their standings in the Texas State Championships.
NOTICE: Race #5, Wyatt 3R Ranch in Glenrose has a higher point value (see point series info). The top five teams in each division will be awarded at the end of the Texas State Championship season. The top 10 teams in each division will receive top 10 finisher shirts.
Texas Team/Club Championship: Teams may represent their team/club in the Texas Team/Club Championship. Teams/Clubs will receive points for their highest 5 finishing teams in each event of the Texas State Championship Adventure Race Series. (Highest 5 finishing teams from any category, not highest 5 teams from each category). The team/club which has the highest point total after the final race of the series (Wyatt 3R Ranch, Glenrose) will be crowned the 2008 Texas State Team/Club Champions. See points series info page for finishing place point values. The Texas State Team/Club Champions will take home the Texas State Team/Club Champions traveling trophy for the year and have a permanent plaque attached to the trophy. Teams that wish to register for the Texas Team/Club Championships must email request to kathy@terrafirmapromo.com and include team name and team/club. Teams must be registered as representing a team/club prior to their first race to receive points for the series.

Course Descriptions and Directions
Race 1: May 31, 2008 - Dallas, TX (White Rock Lake, Winfrey Point)
Course Description: This is our most beginner friendly course of the year! The mountain biking is on a mostly flat, paved jogging/biking trail, with 3 miles of single track off road section. The run will be flat on the scenic running/biking path around the lake with some off road sections. The paddling will be on White Rock Lake. You must use mountain bikes (no hybrids allowed).

Race 2: June 14, 2008 - Austin, TX (Muleshoe Bend Park)
Course Description: Semi technical single track mountain biking. Beginners can see approaching technical sections and may choose to dismount and run through these sections. Paddle is on a finger of Lake Travis which is usually very calm. Trail run is on jeep trails, but some single-track may be used, depending on the weather.
Directions: From Austin on 290 take 71 west, travel 19.3 miles past 3238, Hamilton Pool Rd, Bee Caves, and 2322. Go past the Pale Face Ranch exit then turn right on Pale Face Ranch Road (there is a sign that says Lakecliff Country Club). Travel 4.5 miles & turn right on CR 414 (follow Windmere signs), Travel 1.4 miles on CR 414 & turn right at the Ridge Harbor entrance (Y in road) continue for 1.3 miles to Mule shoe Bend Park. Once you enter the park go down the main road until you hit a Y. Go right into Trammel Camping Area and once you get to the Lake turn left to the parking area.

Race 3: June 28, 2008 - Fort Worth, TX (Camp Carter YMCA, 6200 Sand Springs Road, Fort Worth, TX 76114)
Course Description: This course is mostly run on the YMCA property which includes jeep road, single track, nature trail, horse trails, and a levy. The soil is sandy in some areas, and rocky in others. The course holds water well and drains fast. The paddle is typically on a calm lake in the center of the property, though there are other neighboring bodies of water that may be used as well.
Directions: From downtown Dallas or Fort Worth take I-30 due west and exit 183N (#7B) this will turn into River Oaks Blvd. Stay left at 1st Y in road, continue on River Oaks Blvd to Roberts Cutoff. Turn left on Roberts Cutoff – there is no sign but it is at a light and there is a Taco Bell, Whataburger & Eckerd Drugs. Take the 1st left on Meandering Road. Stay right on Sand Springs at the prison. Camp Carter will be on your right.
Lodging: Cabins Available at YMCA Camp. Cabins are available for Friday night before the Fort Worth leg of the Texas State Championship Adventure Race Series. Cost is $20.00 per person. These are air conditioned cabins (dorm style - 4 beds to a room) and you can shower after the event in the cabins. For reservations call: 817-738-9241.
Race 4: July 12, 2008 - Houston, TX - (Market Square Plaza)
Course Description: Check in at Market Square plaza. Distance will vary depending on route choices, expect 4-6 miles walking/jogging and 15-20 miles biking. Expect race to last 2- 3 hours. Urban mountain biking, urban running and lots of urban adventures! No paddling in this event.

I-45 South exit 10 E to Beaumont, take Milam exit (left exit), Merit Parking Garage is on the immediate right after crossing Congress intersection.I-45 North exit #47B Houston / Memorial, get in right lane and take Memorial, turn right at light on Memorial which will turn into Rusk, left on Louisiana, Merit Parking Garage is on the right after crossing Preston intersection.I-10 East exit #769A Downtown Destinations - Smith Street, left on Preston, left on Louisiana, Merit Parking Garage is on the right after crossing Preston intersection. Race 5: July 26, 2008 - Glenrose, TX (Wyatt 3R Ranch)
Course Description: Brand New Course this year on the Wyatt 3R Ranch. The run is on sweet single track that leads along the river as well as a scenic ridgeline. The paddling is on the beautiful Brazos River, and the mountain biking includes almost all single track with some double track. There will be a catered barbeque after the event with live music for the racers in conjunction with the awards ceremony to crown the "Texas State Champions". Y'all come on out now, ya hear!"

From Dallas, Austin or Houston
Take Hwy 67 South (SW) from I-35W at Cleburne to Glen Rose. Just before entering Glen Rose town proper there will be a "red stop light". To the right will be Hwy 144 North to Granbury. To your left will be an Exxon Station. Turn "left" and you are looking at the ranch. Take this FM Rd 333 about 100 yards to a Y split. Veer to the right passing an old sandstone building on your right and take the first Left onto a gravel driveway with a cattle guard marked W3R. Drive past a small farm home, down the hill to see the barns and corals. You are there.
From Fort Worth
Take Hwy 377 SW to Granbury. There take Hwy 144 South to Glen Rose. Where I44 meets Hwy 67 at the "Red Light" You are looking at the ranch. Go straight across 67 and follow directions above.
