The Races

Entry Fee is $75 per person ($150 per team). If you enter & pay for all 4 races at once by 5/01/10, you will receive a discount of $75 per team! That's a total team entry fee of $525 for 4 races.

- Coed Masters (both team members must be 40+ years old by 12/31/10)

- Male Masters (both team members must be 40+ years old by 12/31/10)

- Clydesdale Division (both team members combined weight must be > than 400 lbs and you may use your own life jackets, but you must each paddle separate in two of our boats)
- Relay Division (one teammate runs, then one teammate bikes, then both must paddle)
- Solo (medals only, and we do not award a state champion in this category)
- Collegiate Male (Collegiate Nationals scoring at the Camp Longhorn race only)
- Collegiate Coed (Collegiate Nationals scoring at the Camp Longhorn race only)
Events: All events will include: approximately 3 mile trail run, 7-14 mile mountain bike, 25 - 35 minute canoe & mystery events. You must use mountain bikes for all races - no hybrids allowed. The races are designed to take 2- 2 1/2 hours on average. Boats (Sevylor K-79 Model Inflatable Canoes), Paddles and Life Jackets are Inlcuded so you don't have to worry about additional rental fees or competitors with $1,000.00 boats. You MUST use our boats, paddles and life jackets (Clydesdales may bring their own jackets and paddle one racer per boat). Please see our General Information Link for other gear you are required to bring. It is advantagous to have a Sevylor High Back Seat for the paddling event. If you don't have one, we sell them on race day for $15 each. Call ahead to make sure we have enough. However, you may choose to paddle on your knees or sitting down in the boat or on a beach ball.
The Top 10 teams in each division will be awarded at each individual race. Plaques 1st-5th, Medals 6th-10th, prizes are awarded based on the following chart:

- 5 in field - Prizes 2 Deep
- 7 in field - Prizes 3 Deep
- 9 in field - Prizes 4 Deep
- 10 or more in field - Prizes 5 Deep
Series Champions: You may also compete in the Texas State Championship point series, where the top teams in each division will be crowned at the conclusion of the series. Teams receive points according to their finishing place in each individual race. We will count your best 3 finishes out of the 4 races to award the State Champions and calculate series standings (you must have completed in 3 races to be eligible for series awards). Top 10 finisher shirts are awarded to the top 10 teams in each category, and top 5 teams are awarded plaques. The winning team of each category of the Texas State Championship Series will receive a prize package which includes a custom award and State Champion Custom Tech-Shirt. The 2009 Coed State Champions received a pair of cool cruiser bikes. 2010 State Champions for Coed and Male will be receiving Kuat Hitch Racks!
Texas Club/Team Championship: Individual teams may represent their AR Club or Team in the Texas Club/Team Championship. There is no fee for this. Team/Clubs will accumulate points for the finishing positions of their individual teams in their quest to take home the Texas Team/Club Championship Trophy. Be sure to select your Team or Club when registering for each event, if you want to earn points for them.
Kid's races: This is getting big, and is loads of FUN! All races of the series will have a Kid's Race. Kid's Races are FREE, usually last just a few minutes, and include a run and possible mystery event with plenty of cheering from the Racers. Parents are allowed to race with the younger kids. All kid's receive a finishing award and a race singlet for exhibiting the courage to compete - plus they'll love it!

Early entry discount 2 weeks in advance: $75 per person/$150 per team for each race site - ($85.00 per person after early entry date two weeks before race date) Register and pay for all 4 races by 05/01/10 to receive a discount of $75 (per team) off your 4 entries for a total entry fee of $525 per team or $262.50 per person!
You are also require to have a USARA license. A one-year license could be purchased in advance for $35 on their website, or you can buy an one day license for $8 on race day. Be sure to bring cash or check, as we do not accept credit cards on race day.

General Information
ALL Sprint races Race check in & starting time: Teams can check in and register at the race site between 7:00am – 8:15am. Mandatory pre-race meeting at 8:30am on race day where teams will receive instructions. Race Start time 9 am. The last race of the series will start at 8:00 am. All times will move up one hour for that race. Winning times depend on the venue and generally range from just under 2 hours to almost 2 1/2.
There will be a central transition area where teams can set up their gear. During the race the teams may pass through this area a time or 2 making it possible to reload on food, water, change clothes, etc. Teams will compete in a multi sport challenge consisting of a 2.5-3.5 mile trail run, a 7-10 mile mountain bike, a 25-35 minute canoe and possible mystery events. Exact distances depend on the venue. Teammates must remain in close contact of each other at all times (20 seconds max, unless unsafe to do so). There will not be any water stations along the course and teams are expected to provide all necessary food & water. The course is marked and teams will not need to land navigate during the race. All paddling is on lakes or calm rivers. Teams may bring their own inflatable boat seats to sit on during the paddle.
NOTICE: Race #4, Muleshoe Bend in Spicewood/Austin, TX has higher point values & starts at 8am (see point series info). The top five teams in each division will be awarded at this final State Championship Series race. The top 10 teams in each division will receive top 10 finisher shirts. You must have completed in 3 of the 4 races for either of these series awards.
Texas Team/Club Championship: Teams may represent their team/club in the Texas Team/Club Championship. Teams/Clubs will receive points for their 5 highest finishing teams in each event of the Texas State Championship Adventure Race Series. (Highest 5 finishing teams from any and all categories, not highest 5 from each category). The team/club which has the highest point total after the final race of the series (Muleshoe Bend) will be crowned the 2010 Texas State Team/Club Champions. See points series info page for finishing place point values. The Texas State Team/Club Champions will take home the Texas State Team/Club Champions traveling trophy for the year and have a permanent plaque attached to the trophy. Teams that wish to register for the Texas Team/Club Championships must email request to kathy@terrafirmapromo.com and include team name and team/club. Teams must be registered as representing a team/club prior to their first race to receive points for the series.

Course Descriptions and Directions
Race 1: May 15, 2010 - Camp Longhorn, Burnet, TX
Course Description: This race is being held in conjunction with the USARA Sprint National Championships and the Collegiate National Championships. The USARA Sprint National Championship is one in the Same with this Sprint Race #1. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? If you win this race, not only do you win the Sprint Race Series #1, but you are also the USARA National Sprint Adventure Race Champions AND win a spot to race in the 24hr USARA National Championships. The distances for this race will be 3-4 miles Trail Running, 8-15 miles Mountain Biking, and 30-45 minutes paddling, plus mystery events.
Directions:
To Burnet
- From Austin: Take IH-35 North to Georgetown. Take "HWY 29/Burnet" exit and go West to Burnet, 35 miles. (about 1 hr, 15 mins)
- From San Antonio: Take HWY 281 North through Blanco, Johnson City, Marble Falls, and Burnet. (about 90 miles. 1 hr, 45 mins)
- From Dallas: Take IH-35 South to Georgetown. Take "HWY 29/Burnet" exit, go West to Burnet. (about 3 hrs, 30 mins)
- From Houston: 2 ways:
- Take HWY 290 West through Hempstead, Brenham, and Giddings to Austin, then IH-35 North into Georgetown.
- Take IH-10 West to Columbus, then HWY 71 West through La Grange, Smithville, and Bastrop to Austin, then IH-35 North to Georgetown. (about 4 hrs.)
To Indian Springs Camp
- From Burnet (Intersection of Hwy 281 & Hwy 29): Take HWY 29 West for 2 miles, Turnoff on FM 3509 (Hoover Valley Rd) to the left (on SW corner is "Chapparal RV Park."). Go 5.5 miles. Entrance is on the left with the Longhorn over the gate.
- From the West: After crossing Inks Lake on HWY 29, FM 3509 (Hoover Valley Road) is about 8.5 miles on the right. Go 5.5 miles. Entrance on left with the Longhorn over the gate.

Race 2: May 29, 2010 - White Rock Lake, Dallas, TX
Course Description: This is our most beginner friendly course of the year! The mountain biking is on a mostly flat, paved jogging/biking trail, with 3 miles of single track off road section. The run will be flat on the scenic running/biking path around the lake with some off road sections. The paddling will be on White Rock Lake. You must use mountain bikes (no hybrids, cross or road bikes allowed).

Race 3: June 19, 2010 - Huntsville State Park, Huntsville, TX
Course Description: A fun, fast course for riders of all levels. Lots of singletrack covered with pine needles, and low swampy areas use boardwalks to keep you out of the muck. Some climbs are criss-crossed with exposed tree roots, and some very soft sand, but the course is technically easy enough for almost anyone to enjoy.
Directions: From the north, take I-45 south from Huntsville to exit 109. Go 2 miles to Park Road 40 and turn right, heading west for about 1.5 miles to the park entrance. After entering park, stay to the right at the first Y which will take you down to the Lodge where the start/finish/transition area will be.
From the south, take I-45 north from Houston area to exit 109. Turn left at Park Road 40, and head west for 1.5 miles to park entrance. After entering park, stay to the right at the first Y which will take you down to the Lodge where the start/finish/transition area will be.

Race 4: July 17, 2010 - Muleshoe Bend Park, Spicewood, TX
Course Description: Fast, tight, twisty loop with a lot of short climbs. 80% shaded by cedar & mesquite trees. Lots of sand, rock gardens, limestone outcroppings, and dirt. Watch out for wildlife. Trail is 6.5 mile loop with several extra loops you can ride.
Directions: From Austin, take State Highway 71 West. Turn right on Paleface Ranch Road and go about 4.5 miles to Burnet County Road 414. Turn right and go about 1.5 miles, then take another right just before the entrance to Ridge Harbor. Continue until you reach the park entrance at the end of CR414. After going through the pay station, you can proceed past the first road to your right, and continue on to Trammel Road and turn right. When you get down to the water, you will pass a bathroom on your left, and then curve around to the left along the shoreline. You will come to the Trammel primitive camping area down on the shoreline, and you will see the transition area set up down there.
